Egypt Introduces New Indigenous Drones at EDEX 2021 – The Defense Post

Egypt debuted its domestically-built Neuth and EJune-30 SW drones during the Egypt Defense Expo (EDEX) 2021 held in Cairo over the past four days.

Produced by the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production, the EJune-30 SW has a reported top speed of 260 kilometers (161 miles) per hour and can fly for up to 24 hours.

The unmanned system has a 12-meter wingspan, automated take-off and landing capability, and a maximum take-off weight of 1,400 kilograms (3,086 pounds).

The Neuth drone features a maximum payload capacity of 50 kilograms (110 pounds) and a flying time of up to 10 hours. It also has satellite integration capabilities, making it ideal for strategic reconnaissance missions using electro-optical technologies.

Other Military Hardware Featured

The EDEX 2021 was a forum for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, the United States, South Korea, and others to feature their weapons and military equipment.

In addition to the Neuth and the EJune-30 SW drones, Egypt also exhibited the Thebes-30 surveillance drone, still under development.

The Egyptian pavilion at the defense expo also featured military vehicles, surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, anti-submarine missiles, surveillance systems, torpedoes, and long-distance, night vision goggles.

Counter-Terrorism Operations

The Egyptian military is using unmanned systems in counter-terrorism operations, particularly in the northeastern province of Sinai.

Before the development of the Neuth and the EJune-30 SW drones, the country had been utilizing the Chinese-built Chengdu Wing Loong, which is fitted with laser-guided missiles and several moving target indicator radars.
