The authorities in Murcia are determined to avoid crowding and street parties

In preparation for the New Year’s celebrations this afternoon and tonight (December 31), the local police force in Murcia has been reinforced with 70 additional officers as well as look-out drones.

Drones will patrol the city to ensure the public don’t form large crowds and the 70 additions to the police force mean that there will be 300 officers in total working this New Year’s Eve.

Officers will be patrolling the busiest areas in the capital city to make sure that everyone is following Covid-19 protocol and they will also be checking parks and gardens as a precautionary measure against street parties, commonly known in Spain as ‘botellones’.

Another measure implemented on December 31 is the prohibition of vehicles weighing more than 3,500 kilograms from circulating in several areas of the city between 10am and 11pm. These heavy-duty vehicles will be banned from the city centre and the surrounding areas.
