A day after BJP national president JP Nadda raised questions over the Punjab Police’s functioning and its failure to check the supply of drugs and weapons through drones into the state, Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Central Government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in particular.

Mincing no words, Bains blamed the supply of drugs and weapons through drones from across the border in Punjab on the Centre, and the Border Security Force, while describing it as the “complete failure” of Union Home Minister Shah.

“BSF is responsible for the drugs and weapons coming through drones from across the border in Punjab…Because the border areas of Punjab, up to 50 kilometers, is with the BSF,” he said while alleging that the Union Home Minister has the full responsibility for the same. He lashed out at the Centre for shifting the responsibility to the Punjab Government.

Notably, Nadda, who was in Ludhiana on Saturday, had targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government saying that the law-and-order situation in the state is collapsing under the regime.

“Patiala violence and the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack at the intelligence office in Mohali have exposed the failure of the state police….The Punjab police is wasting its energy on arresting BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and others who have been criticizing the party, while four terrorists who were supplied drugs and weapons through a drone from across the border were nabbed by Haryana police,” he had said.

Responding, Bains on Sunday said: “If weapons, drones or drugs come from the border area, it is the BSF’s weakness. BSF should work more efficiently so that the security system of Punjab can be maintained. Punjab Police is continuously doing its job right. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is responsible for the supply of drugs and weapons through drones on the border. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are also eagerly waiting for the Aam Aadmi Party. In the coming time, the flag of Aam Aadmi Party will hoist in every state of the country.”

Bains. The state’s Tourism and Culture, Mines and Geology, Law and Legislative Affairs and Jails Minister, was in Ludhiana to attend the state-level function organized on the birth anniversary of Shaheed Sukhdev at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan

“AAP government is committed for preserving the legacy of freedom fighters and our martyrs, due to whose sacrifices we are living in a free society,” he said adding that Shaheed Sukhdev was a famous Indian revolutionary who played a major role in India’s struggle for Independence.

Calling upon the people to come forward and eradicate social evils like corruption, drug abuse, female foeticide and illiteracy from society, Bains said that this would be the “real tribute to the country’s martyrs and fulfil their dreams”.

Paying tribute to Shaheed Sukhdev, Bains said that the Punjab Government has chalked out programmes so that our young generation can seek inspiration from our great freedom fighters. “These functions are being organized to promote national integration and instil patriotism among the people. The families of the martyrs are a treasure to the country and we must pay proper respect to them,” he said.

He said that even the ancestral houses of all martyrs are like religious places and people should visit them for paying obeisance. He said that the Punjab government would soon bring ancestral houses of all freedom fighters and prominent personalities on the    tourist map.
